Tip 22: congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH)

The diaphragm develops at 7 – 10 weeks’ gestation. 85% of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is left-sided.

The main problems postnatally are pulmonary hypoplasia (depending on the amount of abdominal contents in the thorax) and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN).
