Tip 10: developmental follow-up

The babies most at risk of disability should have standardised developmental follow-up at two years’ corrected age. They are:

1. <32/40

2. <1501g

3. HIE and cooled

4. Mod-severe HIE and not cooled (e.g. <36/40, postnatal collapse)

It is also suggested for all neonates that have been admitted to a neonatal unit and are still having follow-up at 2 years of age.

A guideline is being developed by NICE on developmental follow-up for preterm babies.
