Tip 71: routine postnatal screening

NICE suggests:

  1. A full examination within 72 hours of birth, including plotting head circumfrence and weight
  2. Newborn blood spot aged 5 – 8 days old
  3. Examaination aged 6 – 8 weeks including social smiling and visual fixation
  4. Hearing screening before discharge or by week 4 – 5.
